Majestic Vistas is a descriptive musical narrative as we paint pictures not with paint but with sound, taking the listener to the awesome mountains of the Colorado Peaks, across the Pacific Ocean to visit one of the best-known displays of grandeur, Mount Fiji, and relaxing with a simple stroll As I Wander Through the Meadow. In keeping with the theme of relaxing vistas the program will close with a stroll through the Austrian Alps as we relive the Sound of Music.
Following the intermission the stage will belong to the Jazz Band under the direction of Doug Gilmour. This 40-piece group is unique in the sense of its non-traditional instrumentation including flutes, clarinets & oboes along with the standard fare of saxophones, trumpets, trombones and of course a rhythm section. Repertoire for this concert will delve into a broad range of styles tempos both familiar and contemporary.

Come join the Saskatoon Community Wind Ensemble & Jazz Band as we take you on a musical journey from the high seas of the Caribbean where pirates roam and peril prevail, to the depths of the open ocean where British tars plunder and steal away beautiful maidens. Under the Direction of Nick Fanner (Wind Ensemble) & Doug Gilmour (Jazz Band), these two ensembles will delight you with music from the beloved Pirates of the Caribbean and the likes of lyric opera composers Gilbert & Sullivan. Throw in a little Mozart to counter- balance along with the Royal Canadian Navy March Past March, as a tribute to those who today keep our seas safe from those nefarious pirates of yore, you can’t help but come away from the concert beaming from ear to ear.
The concert will be held Wednesday, March 27th at the Broadway Theatre, beginning at 7:30pm. Tickets are $15 and available from any member of either ensemble or on-line at Broadwaytheatre.ca.
Tickets: $10/person and can be purchased from any band member.
The concert will be held at Holy Cross High School in their Theatre. We hope you can join us this festive season for an evening of music & joy!
The title of the concert comes from two recent events concerning the Saskatoon Community Bands.
First, the conductor of the Wind Ensemble found it necessary to step down from the podium due to a chronic medical condition. And so, for the first time in 40 years, the Wind Ensemble has a new conductor. We are pleased to welcome Nick Fanner to the position. Nick is no stranger to the organization as he has been conductor of the Beginner Jazz and the Intermediate Band for the past several years. With his wealth of experience as a high school band director and his involvement with the National Youth Band program, the Wind Ensemble is in very capable hands.
The second event behind the title of the November 29th concert is the resurgence of members at all levels. As with most arts organizations, Covid struck a blow to our only our audience, but also to the membership numbers. This year we have a huge influx of new and returning members at all levels, including 12 beginners. With a total of 130 members, it is definitely a New Beginning!
We hope you can join us Wed. Nov. 29th at the Broadway Theatre for 7:30pm
Tickets: $15/person and can be purchased from any band member or through the Broadway Theatre's website - Broadway Theatre
Sunday's concert will feature our Beginner Jazz Band, Intermediate Band & Concert Band members. Monday's concert will feature Jazz Band and Wind Ensemble Band members.
